I’ve posted an interview I did with one of the Swedish hackers in Malmö a few weeks ago. I was surprised at how demanding transcription is—trying to type quickly enough to keep up with the recording, while still inserting the correct punctuation to make it readable. The word count balloons quickly, too. The formal interview part of my talk with Olle was only about 20 minutes, but it wound up being close to 2,000 words.

Hey man, just began reading after hearing many stories through the Nick and Amanda grapevine.

I spent a some time at my previous job as a little transcriber-wench, and I’m a fan of the listen to a sentence, pause, type, play, listen to a sentence method. You get into a rhythm with the Alt-Tab Space between windows and you don’t have to go back for missed words. But yeah, totally sympathize, it’s a bitch.

“10 Ways to Attract Women To Your Project” link surprised me. #4 was all about accommodating for women’s child-rearing schedules. And here I was assuming that the point was going to be “10 Ways to Attract Nubile Young Techies To Your Project.” Shows what I know.
