I'm a sucker for informational placards

“The Utrecht Waterworks Company – precursor to the Dutch Mid-Netherlands Waterworks and the currant Hydron Mid- Netherlands Ltd. – was established in 1883. alt was set up to provide drinking water for the city of Utrecht. The potable water was drawn from the dunes at Soest and transported through pipelines to Utrecht.
It was not until 1895, however, that construction was begun on the water tower you are now in. Construction of the first watertower in Utrecht wag a direct response to complaints about low water pressure.
Even today, this tower ts in service for a part of the drinking water supply for a section of the old city center. Up until 1970, part of the tower was used as work space; for example, water meters were repaired on the first floor.
Over the years, a number of buildings around this tower were turned into offices and work space for the waterworks. When the company moved, sometime around 1970, to the industrial park ‘Lage Weide’, that space became available for private homes.
For the celebration of ‘One hundred years of water from the tap’ in 1983, the Dutch Waterorks Museum was established and provided with accommodation in this tower.”
